The Family, Infant and Toddler Program

The Family, Infant & Toddler Program is a family-centered system of early intervention for children from birth to three who have or may have special health needs and/or developmental delays. The Family, Infant & Toddler Program also helps parents regardless of income or residence to access family supports, service providers, and resources in the community. The program promotes family independence and strength by helping them navigate through service systems that often are complex and confusing. The staff will meet with the family to explore options and connect families with others with similar experiences. Families are central to all program activities because they are considered to be the child's best advocate.

With the very first phone call, parents can begin to get answers to their questions. All families are eligible for information and referral. If a child is eligible for the Family, Infant & toddler Program, they can receive early intervention services including:

  • Assistive Technology
  • Audiology
  • Community Resources
  • Education and Support
  • Health Services and Nursing
  • Medical Diagnostic
  • Nutrition Services
  • Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy
  • Psychological Services
  • Respite
  • Social Work
  • Special Instruction
  • Speech/Language Services
  • Transportation
  • Vision Services

FITP is a partner with other local agencies, such as Northern Vermont Regional Hospital, Caledonia Home Health, Healthy Babies, Visiting Nurses Association, Parent-Child Center, Early Head Start, and all school districts in our region. All services are at no cost to the family and are Medicaid billable. All services will be provided even if a family has no insurance and does not qualify for Medicaid.

FITP is Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Part C includes children birth to three years of age. At three, the school district where the child resides will continue the necessary services.
